October 1st! Today is the starting date for two new knitalongs combining my two favorite hobbies – books and knitting. These two KALS not only combine two favorite hobbies, they use two of my very favorite series of books to do so – imagine THAT!
The first KAL is through a group on Ravelry called Wodehousian Fibre Artists. All of us in the group share a love for the P.G. Wodehouse, author of the beloved Jeeves and Wooster series. Have you ever heard the phrase, ‘Ask Jeeves’? The book we are starting today is The Inimitable Jeeves and we have decided to knit something that would garner Jeeves disapproval – PURPLE socks! If this does not produce an audible chuckle from you this very minute then I suggest you join me as I read, actually, as I listen to The Inimitable Jeeves.
I have selected the Gentleman’s Sock with Lozenge Pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. The purple Lorna Laces sock yarn is a color I am most certain Jeeves would NOT approve of!
The second KAL that kicks off today is the Anne of Green Gables Knit and Read Along. There is also a group on Ravelry for this called All Things Anne. We will be reading all eight Anne of Green Gables books and the KAL will last four months. I somehow missed reading this series when I was a girl. A friend of mine introduced them to me when I was in my late twenties and I have enjoyed reading them through a couple times.
The Anne of Green Gables knitting project I have selected are the Canada socks from Knitting on the Road by Nancy Bush. Why Canada? The series takes place on Prince Edward Island in Canada. I do not have the yarn for these socks yet. They call for Sheldrige Farms Soft Touch Ultra, a Canadian yarn. I’m having a hard time locating them. Does anyone know of a supplier or another Canadian yarn I can substitute?
My favorite reading companion who loves to snuggle beside me as I knit and listen to books:
Looks like Nancy Bush and I will be spending many hours together this Fall!
